Things to do in Sidi Bou Said village, Tunis

Posted 1 year ago by posteye in response to olive's question: What are the spending time opportunities in a godforgotten village near Tunis, such as Sidi Bou Said ? I can't get it why Europeans flock there. (give a different answer) .

Well, it's actually quite picturesque. That's because the government banned the rebuilding of the village in 1915 so as to preserve its character. Sky-blue painted wooden doors, domed houses, friendly natives make a visit worthwhile. Abu Said, a teacher of Sufism, who was declarer the protector of Corsair pirates against Europeans, gives the name of the minty spot (he died here in 1231). Minty due to the mint tea feverishly sipped by tourists in Cafe des Nattes.
